To some degree this is still true today. In those early days products were developed for open wounds, but those designed for intact skin were considered to have primarily marketing, not therapeutic, value. However, with passing time and ongoing research, we now know that although the skin provides a remarkable barrier, there are some ingredients that can permeate it. Well designed skin care products using ingredients of small molecular sizes and precise delivery agents can transport significant beneficial substances to all levels of the skin. This results in both strengthening and rejuvenating the bodies’ largest organ system, and restoring a youthful glow, vigor and vitality to your appearance.

The key to doing this effectively is the formulating chemist’s skill in understanding the skin’s barrier system and the interaction between the skin, the ingredients, and the pathways for penetration into and through the skin.
